Governance, Transparency, and Independence | Miranda Center for Democracy

Transparency & Accountability

At the Miranda Center for Democracy (MCD), transparency is one of our core institutional pillars. As a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we are committed to the highest standards of financial accountability, ethical stewardship, and responsible management of the resources entrusted to us.

MCD conducts independent research and develops policy solutions that strengthen democratic governance, citizen security, and resilience against authoritarian influence across Latin America and the Caribbean. We work to advance a hemisphere that is safer, freer, and more prosperous.

Our work focuses particularly on closed and authoritarian countries, where we support initiatives that strengthen civil society, promote civic and electoral participation, advance electoral integrity, and help preserve and document the will of the electorate, including during Venezuela's July 28, 2024 presidential election. We also develop long-term policy proposals on democratic transition, security sector reform, institutional rebuilding, and strategies to combat transnational organized crime, narcotrafficking, terrorism, and foreign authoritarian influence.

Because many of our partners and beneficiaries operate in high-risk environments, we protect information that could compromise their safety or expose them to retaliation. While we publicly disclose our financial information, governance documents, and annual reports, we safeguard confidential information related to individuals, sensitive programs, and, where appropriate, donors.

We believe transparency and security are complementary principles: we are fully accountable for how we manage our resources while protecting the people and partnerships that make our mission possible.

As promoters of transparency, we practice it at home.
